Lisa Ekdahl sings Salvadore Poe
Nothing could distract me from noticing her sweet and cute voice when I first heard her a few years ago. Though some might not like her pretentiously childish voice, I can't help but to fall in love with her. While I was listening to this CD, I can't help but to wonder who is this guy, though not that ugly, got to do with sweet Lisa? A search in the Internet broke my heart, Lisa was married to this guy!
Alrite, personal feelings aside, I cannot help but to give full praise to this album! All the songs have been cleverly tailored to Lisa's fragile yet unique voice, by none other than this guy on the back of the album, Salvadore Poe. And they surely work in bringing the best out of Lisa's quivery voice. How could they not work when a lucky guy got such a sweet lady as his wife?
Unlike her previous jazz albums where she chose the songs herself, some might find her strange Swedish accent not very well suited for jazz. Indeed, with the wrong materials, she can sound coarse. Not in this album! Her passionate husband has done a great job!
Her singing was filled with naïve charm. Though little and delicate, her voice brings charming sensibility to the album, an album greatly influenced by bossa nova. Some may find her lacking in improvisation skills for serious jazz, but I like her direct, playful and somewhat flirty style!
How sweet is her voice? Let's imagine this, if she were to tell me, "Dear, I saw this nice little purse when I was doing some shopping." I would willingly give her my credit card.
Is this her best? Perhaps!
