How it all started... the reception!

It started on a drizzling nite, everyone got their rigs and assumed their positions. Everyone couldn't wait to get out and have a piece of the action.
One of the chariots.
The big chariot.
Heavy rain didn't manage to damp our high spirit, everyone was ready to get going!
Small obstacle, no big deal! Hey, that's the high tension cable!
The heavy and bustling main street, but we got it all to ourselves!
Everyone is waiting for the ARRIVAL!

The Gods were in the house! Party on!
Hold on, where's the big Brother?!
Alrite, follow me!

Let's head back to the temple!
This is a junction with 6 lanes of traffic, and we had it all to ourselves! See the black flags behind? That's another reception by another temple! And we have no less than 3 of these major receptions!
At any junction, we would stop for the Gods to cleanse the tainted ground to rest the unrest souls. This was at the railroad gate.

Home sweet home!
Let's pray! Pray real hard!
After prayers, everyone had a hot cuppa and some supper.
Stay tuned for more!

Scenes from Peng Hiang Temple...

You think I am going to simply let you go without showing you more?! No way, this ain't no small event, but a grand event going on full 9 days!

The ah kong-s helping out to replenish the praying oil.
In every single temple, you will not fail to notice this huge God's ship. It ranges in scales, complexities and contends depending on the size of the temples as well as supports from the devotees.
The round joss sticks.
More offerings to the 9 Emperor Gods, I don't know what's it called and what's it for also.
Man, just in case you were wondering what good luck you had, it might be your ah ma-s praying hard for you in your hometowns. Be God fearing and do no evil!
Old school cooking, this is where all the ah ma-s gather and cook those delicious dishes. You have to try the dishes once, you won't fail to notice that "smell"/"taste" that might have graced your childhood.

Scenes from Char Kong Temple...

Char Kong in Sungai Petani is one of the oldest 9 Gods Temples around. I hung around this place annually since childhood, it was not like this back then. Before its reconstruction, the temple was built with planks and tin roof, and occupied much wider area. This place brings heaps of memories!

All the origami lovers hanging together!

9 Gods Festival again! Scenes from Semeling Temple...

Ah, peaceful view isn't it? But for 9 days, it would be filled with devotees and prayers from all around. Everyone would take no meat, only vege!

Not Everyone can simply go up and offer joss sticks. Only those with full white attires and properly cleansed are allowed to get close to the gigantic altar!

Mountainous fruit offerings!

I don't see people getting quiet also?!

Outside view, this is where people are going to walk on fire later at nite!

Helpers preparing for the sacred ground for fire walking!

See that glowing "red carpet"? People are going to walk on top to clean the impurities and bad luck!

On the other end of the "red carpet", we have scantily clad dancers and singers performing! 搖啊搖!
